Orgy is an American rock band formed in 1994 by lead singer Jay Gordon in Los Angeles, California. The band is best known for their cover version of the New Order song "Blue Monday".  Jay reformed the band, due to overwhelming fan requests, in 2012 and is the only original member.

Last year I saw Orgy play and briefly said hello to the band. However, this time around I had the pleasure of sitting down with Carlton and Nic at Fete Music Hall in Providence, RI and getting a little more insight into the band.

The band name is certainly an attention grabber. However, it actually is not sexually based but stems from the combination of genres mixed together to make their unique sound.  Orgy has been considered industrial, electronic rock, alternative metal, and electro punk...and I'm sure there's some more we could add since these guys wear more eyeliner than I do!

At the time of this interview, Orgy was co-headlining a tour with Powerman 5000, alternating the headlining spot, with direct support by Death Valley High.   What an incredible show! Carlton said they were having a blast and the tour was one of the smoothest they’d been on. When asked how they kept their energy up while touring incessantly, Carlton quickly replied, “Jack Daniels!” (There was a gallon of it sitting next to him on the tour bus, so he wasn't kidding!)  Nic was a little more conservative with his reply of “Oatmeal!”

I always like to get other artists perspectives on how they got where they are and what advice they'd give to aspiring artists.  With Orgy it boils down to finding a group of people who want to make it and work well together, along with a lot of hard work, just keeping at it.  Although the competition may be tough, being located in LA certainly is helpful in knowing the right people, especially with the established reputation Jay Gordon had.  Carlton was also well known from his previous band, Deadsy.
