Devil In Disguise Album Review

By:  Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

 Boston Rock Radio

From the heart of Michigan comes Pipeline Entertainment’s State of Mine with their album Devil in Disguise.  The members are Matt Martin, Mike Martin, Shawn Willett, Corey Smith and Steve Norway.  This is an immense sounding production with pure hardcore steel.

“Curtain Call” has searing intensity with its opening power.  Both clean and growling vocals assault you from the start. The cover of Katy Perry’s “Rise" is immense and how it should have been done...fuckin metal!  “Waste My Time" starts a touch lighter then develops momentum with a steady escalation of heaviness.  “Stones" is an aggressive badass- chunky bass with anvil pounding drums. “Undertow" leans melodic but is no less heavy with hauntingly beautiful lyrics.

State of Mine offer lush textures to their songs with clearly different styles mixed in.  Definitely tight musicianship, each part working the gears of a monstrous machine.
