Janet Gardner: Janet Gardner Album Review

 By Lisa McLaughlin, Contributing Writer

Boston Rock Radio

Janet Gardner- vocals, guitar

Justin James- guitar

Pavement Entertainment

Janet Gardner, of Vixen fame teamed up with Justin James (her husband, btw) to unleash her talent in a collection of songs that remake the front woman for a band that paved the way for women in rock, decades ago. So, get out the AquaNet and spandex, because this album will not only take you back to the 80's quicker than a Delorean doing 88 mph, but will also put you in the pit to pump your fist and throw horns.

She addresses issues that plague society today; health insurance, war, school shootings and puts a rock spin on it. She serves up politics with a hard rock coating, making it easy to swallow.

"Rathole" delivers that punch to the system with a big middle finger flying to the sky. The guitars are supportive of the message to the masses. She slows it down with "Best Friend". The track is strategically placed in a lineup of 'up in your face' songs.

You can hear traces of Halestorm, The Pretty Reckless, Heart and more. It's a reflection of powerful women in rock today and decades ago. I will personally be purchasing this just to roll on down the highway with this woman's voice rocking out the Bose my car is blessed to have. I just wish it had been released earlier in the summer, then the locals would know all the lyrics by now. Haha!

Keep it real all,

Love, lyrics and horns \m/
