MOTOGRATER:  Desolation Album Review

By:  Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

When you think of just the word Motograter, perhaps it brings to mind something that pleasantly scrapes your eardrums. Hailing from the metal cauldron that is California, Motograter delivers with their latest album Desolation.

The songs wander and explore all that is dark and primal. Infused with hints of industrial and underpinnings of even hardcore, the vibe is aggressive.  "Victim" and "Paragon" bleed grinding guitar riffs, beastly vocals and that thundering drums/bass background that screams forth restless energy.  "Misanthropical" releases a bedlam of rage just perfect for a little moshing. It is hard and deep and will punch you in the gut.

I can't rave enough about Noah "Shark" Robertson's assaulting drums on "Portrait of Decay" and "Locust". Combined with the harsh scorching dirge of turbulent vocals, these slash your soul with something almost hypnotic. Closing song "Shadows" lures you with its slower, haunting and overcast tone.

The litany of lyrics on this album radiate with somber delights, leaving you soaked in raw metal, writhing and pulsing on the edge.
