Pterodactyl Problems

“Alone in the Cold”

Esoteric Hobbies

Self-Released

March 8th, 2019

Song Review by Ariana Leo, Photojournalist

Boston Rock Radio

Despite is gloomy title, Pterodactyl Problems’ latest single “Alone in the Cold,” taken from the Toronto-based band’s forthcoming album Esoteric Hobbies, is a fun, energetic punk song, full of crazy drum fills and clever backing vocals. Like many great punk acts before them, Pterodactyl Problems—Davey White (guitar/vocals),  Jack Neila (guitar), Ciarán Neely (guitar/bass), and Oliver Salathiel (drums)—succeed in turning a very real and relatable experience of frustration into a catchy jam song. The addition of spoken vocals in this track adds another layer (literally, but also figuratively), the perfect dash of humor and humanness needed to carry along a cheery, up-tempo track like this one.

Set for release in March 2019, Esoteric Hobbies will be the band’s first full-length album, following the four-track self-titled EP that marked the band’s official return to the scene in 2017. The memorable “Alone in the Cold” hints at an album guaranteed to be as fresh, exciting and in-your-face as its stunning cover art.
