Album Review by Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

Formed in 2018 in Singapore, Devourer are self-described as a “bestial death cult warfare”. We have guitarist Shyaithan (Impiety), vocalist Antichristo Xul ( Infernal Execrator), guitarist Asura (Deus Ex Machina), bassist Cryptor (ex-Demisor), and drummer Dizazter (Impiety, Depravity). They draw their influences from Possessed, Sarcofago, Necrovore, Blasphemy, Death and Sodom.

“The Decapitator” reminds me of Cannibal Corpse with brutal lyrics, and altercations between chugging and blasting riffs. Pity for the soul who meets the character of this song. “Ritualized Debauchery” seems to embrace the chaoticness of grindcore and embellish it with the technical discipline of death metal creating its own monstrosity. The album continues its anarchic riffing frenzy that is absolutely vicious in its primal brutality via lurching ascending riffs, diabolic vocals and unending serrating speed. And in finality, “INRI,” which is not necessarily what the dear old Judaic figure would smile down on. It is furiously frothy with a relentless speaker-blowing, ill-tempered pace. This debut EP will melt your skin off your bones.
