Officially, I will admit to “knowing” of Tantric, but had not ever listened to them. (Just saying my vast music exposure was sorely lacking, having not given them a listen because...WOW!) On to what we’re really here for, the album review. I listened to this album forwards, backwards and through some dark, personal times. I want to say, it’s not often an album gets me from start to finish. There are usually one or three songs that manage to keep you riveted. Hugo Ferreira and company more than manage that feat. The line up of talent includes: Troy Patrick Farrell on drums, Jaron Gulino on bass, and Sebastian Labar on guitar. These men, along with Hugo Ferreira’s vocals, make this band solid. It’s a ride of the senses. Hugo’s smoky vocals, Sebastian’s guitar riffs and solos, Jaron giving that under current to the songs with his bass lines and Troy pounding those skins to drive home the sight, sound and feel of the songs.

The placing of songs has always been important for the “selling” aspect of an album. It has been a well followed formula to date. On this album, however the song lineup could have been easily accepted with any of the songs as track one. However, “Angry” is the perfect song to lead off this album with. It grabs you straight out of the gate. Hugo’s voice penetrates your soul with these lyrics. There is a distinct tempo that keeps you bouncin’ your head to the beat.

Then we flow into what has to be easily my favorite song on the album, “Tether.” The lyrics are profound and delivered with a voice that magically transforms from a well groomed growl to something velvety. Hugo’s range amazes me. As a mantra, this song could be used as an effective pep talk to someone letting life own them.

Get Em’ All” and “Before You Could Crawl” are as different as night and day. The later a ballad of sorts, but emotionally charged. The tempo draws you in and holds you, inevitably rocking you gently. Whereas, “Get Em’ All” rocks your face off. It’s hard, heavy hitting and demands you start throwing horns. The ballad “My Forever” is the well written love letter that never gets sent. However, that is up to the listener’s interpretation. I’m a bit of a cynical-romantic. “Letting Go” rounds out the album with a song that speaks to all of us. It addresses the fear of letting go and what it brings out in each person...good, bad or indifferent.

The tracks deliver what Tantric wanted to give their fans...a masterpiece. It’s well balanced and filled with hope, love, pain, and more. In the nearly 20 year span of Tantric’s place in this world, they have given us seven studio albums and countless live performances to wet our appetite. I, for one, will forever kick myself for NOT seeing them live when they were so close. (I plan to rectify this as soon as humanly possible...BTW!)

Tantric is giving “Letting Go” as an instant download with your pre-order of the album. Pavement Entertainment has scored another hit record with Tantric. The official release through digital platforms and varied major retailers will happen October 5, 2018. (SAVE THE DATE)

NOTE: If you don’t get this album or sift through the last decade plus of their music...you’re not right. It’s just that good.
