Guster is an American alternative rock band from Boston, Massachusetts.  I was able to catch their last sold out show at The Columbus Theater in Providence, RI.  Their schedule didn't allow for an interview that day, but we were happy to get guestlisted for the show that had been sold out for months.

“Guster's live shows have a style of their own. For encores, the band has sometimes featured drummer Brian Rosenworcel, who is not known for his vocals, moving to the front microphone and singing humorous covers. These have ranged from Temple of the Dog's "Hunger Strike" to 4 Non Blondes' "What's Up?" to the theme song from the TV show Cheers.  Guster has toured with many other artists, such as Ben Folds, Nickel Creek, Tally Hall, Ben Kweller, Pete Yorn, Nada Surf, John Mayer, Rogue Wave, Good Old War, The Submarines, Jack's Mannequin, and Rufus Wainwright.”  *Quoted from Wikipedia.

On this particular night they held a karaoke contest. Upon entering the venue, you submitted your name into a drawing and the chosen winner got to go onstage and sing a song with the band. I purposely did not enter this contest, as I would have cleared the theater out in seconds.  However, a young girl won and sang “Rise and Shine” beautifully.  It actually was the highlight of the show for me.  I love when bands show a token of appreciation to their fans with opportunities such as that.

Guster is currently working on some new music but you can catch them on tour with Dispatch this summer.
