Hopeless Records

By Gabe Straight

Boston Rock Radio

The newest single to come from Hopeless Records and their band Stand Atlantic, “Lavender Bones” is also accompanied by a music video. I’ve known about Hopeless Records for some time with the help of bands like The Wonder Years and Neck Deep, so I was looking forward to checking out another band from their roster.

If I were to describe the song, it would be pure hard rock, and I love it. I love the singer’s strong performance, the guitar riffs completed her melodies very well too. Whoever produces Hopeless Records albums is a genius. I think bands that come out of Hopeless Records have this unprecedented level of crisp clearness with heavy earth-shaking power that I don’t see in other labels across the board. The song is catchy, fun, energetic, and passionate; it has me excited for the band’s future album release.

As for the music video, I have no idea how Hopeless finds these directors, but every video they make also looks like they have a massive budget. The video is full of wires, computers, special effects, all of it looking amazingly realistic. The message the video tries to invoke rubbed me the wrong way, however. What it looks like it’s trying to go for is a story of test subjects that are cursed to make generic uninteresting art, except for the lead singer, who breaks free and makes colorful art and breaks the hearts of her captors. It’s one of those “look at me, I’m interesting, I make cool art” kind of messages that I can’t appreciate. The song still slaps, though.
