Dead Hand

Reborn of Dead Light

Divine Mother Recordings

September 7, 2018

Album Review by Allyson Kingsley, Music Journalist

Boston Rock Radio

As I look forward to autumn, I'm soaking in the doom and sludge genre more and more. One rarely expects this kind of genre hailing from Georgia, but Dead Hand is a master of their craft and with their upcoming release Reborn of Dead Light, their slithering dark sound captures. Dead Hand formed in 2012 and did a split 7 inch with Repellers in January of 2014 that was mastered by Dan Randall of Mammoth Sound (Ash Borer, Noothgrush). Thereafter they toured with Crawl and also appeared at Blood Rust II Fest and the Tennessee Sludge Fest. Their first full length on Divine Mother Recordings was in June of 2015 entitled Storm of Demiurge. Reborn of Dead Light was mastered by Matt Washburn at Ledbelly Sound Studios in Georgia.

Let me just say simply that I loved this album. Especially the song “Amaranthine” which thoroughly relaxed me. Its nuances and rising and falling cadences whisked me to cool nights where I would escape with my music to the woods, listening and letting the night caress my troubled soul. It's over 15 minutes long but I have the patience and I immersed myself in its gloomy power. Title track “Reborn of Dead Light” is also mentionable for its sweet melancholy, ever touching the depths of my mind. A truly hypnotic work.
