Avenue members L-R : Jameson Savage (bass), Eric Bisson (vocals, guitar), Nick Harms (drums), Gil Tolley (guitar)

When I got the invite to shoot Dover, NH based band Avenue’s EP release show, I jumped at the chance.  Having previously seen them play as an opening act; I was excited to see what these guys could put out for their own headlining show. Let’s just say I had a great time! These guys bring the rock and they bring it like seasoned professionals. Formed officially in 2015, all band members have previously been in others bands in the area and pretty much knew each other from growing up in Dover.  Lead singer Eric and guitarist Gil had played in a band together prior to forming Avenue, and at one point drummer Nick and Gil had also played in a band together.  It took these guys some time to all come together, but I’m glad they did.

Lead singer Eric describes their sound as “pop-punk dance driven with an edge.”  It suits them- they play to the crowd and the crowd plays off of them.  It was a packed house for their show at Fury’s Publick House, a venue which if you haven’t been to before, I highly recommend.  It is a real fun atmosphere and the crowd is always engaged and having a great time when bands play there (plus they have a great selection of food and beer).

The band played all of the songs off of their self-titled EP, which includes one of my favorites by them “Home.”  It’s a great song, melodic with great guitar riffs and a radio friendly chorus.  That song is sure to be a hit in my opinion once it hits the radio airwaves.  Another song from their album “With You” is also a hit.  It starts off with a heavy punch of guitar and great vocals from Eric who goes on to sing “Let’s see what tomorrow brings! I don’t care where I’m going, as long as I’m going with you.”  The third song off of the EP is another heavy pop-punk song about a girl who is “cold” - appropriately titled “You’re So Cold.”

As the music played and the drinks flowed, the crowd got real into the music, dancing, shaking their heads around and getting loose.  A surprising crowd hit was actually a boy-band cover from One Direction called “Drag Me Down.”  As much as one would not like to admit, pretty much everyone in the crowd was singing along and obviously knew the lyrics.  Plus Avenue put their own punk spin on it, making it a great tune to dance around to.

If you get a chance to check these guys out, I definitely recommend that you do.  You can find their tour dates, purchase their EP or just find out some find out some tour dates on either their Facebook page or on their official website  www.avenuerock.com
