Hands Like Houses

Rise Records

Album Review by Allyson Kingsley Music Journalist with Boston Rock Radio

The review of Hands Like Houses comes at the request of my older son who is a huge fan of these talented musicians who hail from Australia. The band lineup is Trenton Woodley (lead vocals, keyboard, pianist), Matt “Coops” Cooper (lead guitar), Alexander Pearson (rhythm guitar), Joel Tyrell (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Mark Parkitny (drums). Dissonants is their current release via Rise Records. They have performed at Rock on the Range, Carolina Rebellion and Northern Invasuin among other performances.  Their musical style is described as experimental/alternative rock and post-hardcore.

“Colourblind” has an excellent rhythm with hints of metalcore. “I Am” is pure hard rock, caustic riffage, divinely sounding vocals and meticulous drumming; definitely my favorite on the album. I like the lyrics on most of the tracks.

‘I don’t care if I leave empty handed
I will learn if I make my own mistakes
I don’t care if you don’t understand it
I will learn if you let me find my way’ from “Bloodlines”.

This is not the usual style of metal I chance to listen to but the more I hear them, the more fond of them I am. Thanks to my son.
