Argue with me all you want, but you’re wrong: female vocalists make everything better. Italian power pop outfit Aeren is no exception. This project is fun, energetic, groovy, and Silvia Galetta’s vocals are pure joy to my ears. She has great control over her range, her tone shows passion without being cheesy, and she makes the songs significantly better.

As for the songs themselves, they’d still be pretty cool without Galetta. There are plenty of earworm riffs on songs like “Time Flux” and “Lightheartedness.”  The genre I described is power pop, but that’s selling them short. The band is a combination of pop, power rock, punk, and hard rock, Aeren covers a lot of ground with the album. I genuinely loved listening to this album.

My only major drawback is the production. There’s so much passion and energy being displayed in “Breakthru,” and the production leaves a lot to be desired. The mix is a ham sandwich, and I really wanted it to be a double bacon cheeseburger with mac and cheese bites (all of it vegan, of course). Anyway, a good production mixing would’ve skyrocketed the wow factor on “Breakthru.”

Pretty much everything about this album kicks ass. This is one of the few projects I would recommend to friends upon only a couple listens, but I think Aeren deserves it. Please, for the love of vegan bacon cheeseburgers with mac and cheese bites, go out and listen to this thing. Now if you excuse me, I’m going to go on Grubhub and check again if they make vegan double bacon cheeseburgers with mac and cheese bites.

Nevermind, they don’t. Well, listen to “Breakthru” nevertheless. It’s awesome.
