The Untamed Wilderness

Lifeforce Records

November 24,2017

Album review by Allyson Kingsley Music Journalist with Boston Rock Radio

Greek melodic death metal band Aetherian have released their first full length with Lifeforce Records entitled The Untamed Wilderness and what an appropriate title it is as this album was quite the exquisite musical journey. The entire album is a lustrous mix of different styles of metal so it is sincerely difficult to pinpoint them into just one genre. Which makes this release all the more exemplary. Aetherian were nominated for the Best Melodeath/Extreme Power/ Gothenburg Metal Album at Metal Storm Awards in 2017.

“Wish of Autumn” begins with a soft ethereal guitar intro before releasing the beast full force. “Dark Earth” is badass heavy then slows momentarily, teasing you, then brutally kicking in. “Black Sails” begins with a folk like sound and then grips with utter force. Panos Leakos has vocals that are deep, dark, full of both life and pain, sometimes guttural but yet you are able to FEEL the lyrics. Angelos Maniatakos and Giorgio Evgeniadis have phenomenal shredding skills. Panos’ bass riffs are perfectly in balance with Nikos Parotidis on drums creating an almost tribal background to this exceptional masterpiece. Having listened to this album multiple times I am always honing in on the nuances of the sounds. A beautiful creation.
