Visions of the Onslaught

Brutal Records

April 6, 2018

Album review by Allyson Kingsley Music Journalist with Boston Rock Radio

Behold the divine love affair I have for the thrash metal genre. There are not many thrash metal bands out there that I don't take a liking to (hint, send more please) and I can honestly add Oklahoma based Volition to my ever growing list. Volition have played with Havok, ExMortus, Gatekeeper and D.R.I. among others. They previously released an EP in 2016 titled Vengeful Satisfaction and their latest LP Visions of the Onslaught is set for release in April. The musicians are Chris Potter (lead vocals, guitar), Malice von Creitz (drums), Treston Lamb (bass) and Gabe Henry (guitar).

Visions of the Onslaught is drenched in non-stop pounding drums and relentless vicious riffs. The meaty guitar and bass reminded me, of course, of Slayer and early Megadeth...catch the riffs on “Morbid Devastation.” “Theories of Punishment" ramps it up into the speed metal zone. A killer guitar intro on “Injection Vendetta" cruises into a classic thrash rhythm mixed with death metal intense vocals. “Annihilation" and “Vengeful Satisfaction" are my personal favorites, all the headbanging kick ass loveliness. The songs overall are energetic moshers of pure intensity interwoven with brash vocals to serrate your nerve endings.
