Falling Through April

Zodiac

By Gabe Straight,  Music Journalist for Boston Rock Radio

Starting off the new year with a bang, North Carolina natives Falling Through April released their newest effort titled Zodiac, once again following their musical melting pot of pop punk, alt rock, and electro pop. Any band that mixes pop punk and alt rock is a good band in my book, so I was looking forward to listening to FTA and Zodiac. Coming out of the album, there was plenty to like about it.

First off, the band has a very wide range of sound. Each song off the album had its own unique feel, while at the same time following a clear pattern. This is something very hard to accomplish and I give the band big props for pulling it off. Second, the performances were top-notch. Guitarists Dan Candia and Jim Siani have great symmetry being able to match the already well-rounded riffs these two are dishing out throughout the album. Drummer Taylor Foster also gave out a great performance; his drumming balanced the tightness needed to keep the band together and the personality to make it interesting. Foster has a great feel for the kit. Most notably of the performances was of singer Mikaela Salazar; I loved her voice. Her tone worked well for every genre. She had complete control over her range and never hit a bad note.

I was really digging this album. Falling Through April has variety, band symmetry, a great lead vocalist at the helm, and a personality to match.
