By: Nina McCarthy, Senior Music Journalist

Boston Rock Radio

Out of Sydney Australia, let me introduce you to CROSSON, the glam heavy melodic rock band determined to bring their own unique brand of catchy, ‘post apocalyptic’ rock to the original music scene.  Frontman, Jason Crosson, was kind enough to answer some questions for me and now I'm craving a live show!

BRR:  Thank you for doing this interview by email since we have a 16 hour time difference and you are already in the future.

OMG…. We are in the future!! I’ll send you the winning lotto numbers… remember…. 50/50 split  !!!  Thanks for having me Nina. Always a pleasure.

BRR:  Can you give me a brief history of CROSSON leading up to your current status?

CROSSON has been going for quite some time in various forms. It wasn’t until about 4 years ago when everything fell into place as far as the image and music and we decided to “go for it” all guns blazing!!!

We managed to secure legendary engineer/producer Duane Baron (Motley Crue, Poison, Ozzy, Alice Cooper) on board and he has been mixing our music ever since. We then were fortunate enough to be signed to a great rising label in Germany (Metalopolis Records) and here we are on Boston Rock Radio!!

BRR:  What is the music scene like in Sydney, Australia?

It's not as big as it was say 10-15 years ago with now only a handful of venues actually having local metal/rock bands playing. Due to our genre and image, we have had more exposure in Europe and now the US thanks to great stations such as Boston Rock Radio.

BRR:  Spreading The Rock ‘N’ Roll Disease was released in October of this year.  Now that's one disease I caught and am not ashamed to admit!  Tell me about the album and why you chose this genre?

Ha!! Thanks Nina. I’m afraid there is no cure for this disease and hopefully it’s contagious!!

It was released in Europe a little earlier, as that is where our label is based, and now we are trying to Spread The Rock N Roll Disease throughout The US.  The album was tracked in Sydney, however it was mixed around the globe by Duane Baron (US) and Mikko Karmilla (Finland) (Nightwish, Edguy) and mastered by Dave Donnelly (USA) (Whitesnake, Aerosmith). Hence, you can hear that big production 80’s metal influence in our music.  I’ve always been a fan of the genre being influenced by bands like KISS, Scorpions, Motley Crue, Dokken Stryper, Iron Maiden, Bon Jovi, etc and wouldn’t be happy playing another style or something that isn’t true to me!!

Some people think this genre is dead. Nothing could be further from the truth with great ‘newer’ bands  (especially in Europe) such as Crazy Lixx, Shakra, Stop Stop, Vega, Kissin’ Dynamite, Eclipse, Ammunition,  W.E.T etc ….the list just goes on!!!!

BRR:  What message does your music spread?

The title track Spreading The Rock ‘N’ Roll Disease is about keep alive the spirit of rock and metal in an age where Hip Hop and all that unbearable music rules the commercial airwaves.  Some of the songs also have an inspirational message behind them such as ‘All About The Music’ and ‘Take Another Shot’ (“Take Another Shot, Give It All You Got. After A Fall, You Gotta’ Stand Tall!”)

BRR:  By watching your videos, listening to your music can't even compare to the live theatrical show you must put on.   In your own words, how would you describe your live performance?

CROSSON delivers an over- the- top bombastic theatrical live show. We have the CROSSON girls coming out in various costumes (the show stopper is ‘I’m The Doctor’ where they are dressed in their PVC Nurses outfits) delivering an exhilarating choreographed routine.

I remember hearing Paul Stanley say in an interview that when they were starting KISS, they wanted to put together the band they wanted to see. I took these words of wisdom and put together the show that I wanted to see: catchy heavy rock mixed with a great image and high energy stage show with 2 choreographed leather clad girls on stage!!

BRR:  How long does it take you to get ready with stage attire and makeup before a show?

I generally need about 1.5 hours to do everything properly (that’s if I don’t mess the makeup up).  Then it's a little meditation and vocal warm ups!!

BRR:  What can you tell me about the upcoming album Invincible due for release in 2018?  Who is producing it?

Invincible is going to be our best work to date. The writing and arrangements have matured and I can’t wait to get this out to the public.  Once again we have Duane Baron doing the mixing and Dave Donnelly the mastering.   We have also shot 3 videos for the album with Steve Ravic (Doro, The Poodles, Manowar) directing and editing.

BRR:  What are your tour plans for 2018?  I hope they include the US, especially the northeast!

We are now putting the final touches to the artwork for Invincible so hopefully this should see the light of day around April (that’s all the label’s hands).  We also intend to start the live shows again and of course the demoing and writing just continues as always.  We would love to come to the US and play to as many people as we possibly can. Any promoters out there feel free to touch base!!  !!

BRR:  Anything else you'd like to say to Boston Rock Radio or your fans worldwide?

Thanks so much Nina for having me and huge thumbs up to Boston Rock Radio for their continued support and for keeping the genre alive and kicking.
